MORE THAN FIRST INSURER TO LAUNCH ECO-CAR DISCOUNT

    22/05/2006 - MoreThan Car Insurance

  • 74 per cent of drivers are seriously concerned about the rise in petrol prices1

  • 22 million2 Brits would consider switching to a hybrid car if they were cheaper to run than normal cars

  • MORE THAN leads the green motoring crusade by being the first insurer to offer a discount to hybrid car drivers in the UK.

Hybrid car drivers3 can now benefit from a discount off their motor insurance in a new move by MORE THAN designed to reward environmentally-friendly driving. The leading motor insurer has announced that from today (22 May 2006), it will reduce premiums for existing hybrid customers and offer a discount to new customers with hybrid vehicles.

The announcement comes as MORE THAN releases new research revealing that:

  • seven out of ten Brits would consider switching to an hybrid car if they were cheaper to run than normal cars

  • over half (60%) would consider switching if there was ....cont/

    reduced motor tax

  • 58 per cent would consider switching if they could benefit from cheaper motor insurance.

As well as MORE THAN's insurance discount, hybrid car drivers also benefit from a reduction in car tax announced in the 2006 budget and exemption from the congestion charge in central London.

With petrol prices approaching £1 (one pound sterling) per litre across Britain and three quarters (74 per cent) of drivers expressing serious concern about rising fuel prices, any move to cut the cost of motoring will be welcomed by cost-conscious drivers.

But it’s not just fiscal reasons that motivate people to go green, the research reveals. Four in ten motorists would consider switching for the environmental benefits and almost half (48 per cent) are seriously concerned about the impact that full petrol cars have on the environment.  Despite this, only one in five of those questioned by MORE THAN know the amount of carbon dioxide that their current car emits.
